Coffee farmers in Hoima count losses as wilt hits area
Farmers in the two sub-counties of Hoima are counting losses after the area was hit by the Coffee wilt disease. The affected areas are in Mparangasi and the greater Kyabigambire Sub-county in Hoima district. The wilt disease causes coffee plants to dry up prompting coffee seeds to ripen prematurely.
The affected farmers say the plants are not responding to known fungicides and pesticides. The Dean of RDCs in Bunyoro, Amlan Tumusiime is calling on extension officers and the Uganda Coffee Development Authority to come to the rescue of farmers.
