Energy Ministry say government is ready for new electricity deal
The Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa has emphasized that the successor of UMEME must ensure that investment returns on energy investments are cheaper than UMEME's 20 per cent, which led to the current high electricity tariffs. The call came as the minister presided over the opening of Mbale Regional Offices for the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA). Nankabirwa reiterated the government's commitment to reduce electricity tariffs, saying that the cabinet has already considered a new bill that aims to streamline various government strategies to lower electricity costs.
