Farmers in Bugisu urge government to rethink Coffee Authority merger
Coffee farmers in the Bugisu sub-region are calling on the government to reconsider its stance on merging the Uganda Coffee Development Authority with the Ministry of Agriculture. This was the call as we traversed the six districts of Bulambuli, Sironko, Mbale, Manafwa, Bududa, Namisindwa, and Mbale City, which make up the Bugisu sub-region, the main producers of Arabica coffee in Uganda. Many farmers in the region say they have achieved a lot from coffee, ranging from educating their children to buying more land, constructing new homes, and meeting all their family needs.
