Global wildlife populations plummet by 73%, Africa among hardest hit - WWF report
A new report titled Living Planet Report 2024 by the Worldwide Fund for Nature reveals worrying trends of wildlife population declines. The report, released in Kampala today, shows a 73% decline in global wildlife populations since 1970, with Africa experiencing the second fastest rate of decline after the Caribbean, driven primarily by habitat loss and overexploitation. Uganda has also been affected, with declines in species such as lions and leopards. Speaking at the launch, WWF Uganda Country Director Ivan Tumuhimbise, along with other stakeholders, called for concerted efforts to ensure sustainable wildlife and environmental conservation.
