Great Lakes Forum urges oil-rich states to prioritize public interest
The Great Lakes Parliamentary Forum has asked member states that have oil deposits but have not yet exploited them to consider coming up with legislation that favors the general public in terms of the proceeds from the oil ventures. Speaking to NTV, the forum's Secretary-General Onyango Kakoba says that if this is not done, then oil can end up becoming a curse characterized by conflicts that translate into unrest in the region. Legislators from the forum, who have been in Uganda, toured the Kingfisher oil project, which is taking shape.
