Kawempe South MP rearrested after release from Kigo prison
Monday was meant to be a day of freedom for Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya. However, he is back in detention, moments after he was released on bail in Kigo prison. Just like his Makindye West colleague, Allan Sewanyana last week, Ssegirinya was released into the hands of his lawyer Shamim Malende outside Kigo prison. Malende turned her car to drive away when a white van, loaded with armed men gave chase eventually catching up with Segirinya and his lawyer. The MP was then dragged out forcefully into the van, and driven away to an unknown destination. It remains to be confirmed if Ssegirinya is now also in the hands of the army and police, as is the case with Sewanyana.
