Media houses in Uganda refuse free Census Ads
Media house managers, under their umbrella organization the National Association of Broadcasters, have refused to run census campaign advertisements for free. However, they have agreed to air the presidential message on the census without payment. The president of the broadcasters says that since the Uganda Bureau of Statistics has been heavily funded and had ten years to prepare for the census, they should allocate money to pay for census messages on private media houses. However, UCC's Executive Director, Thembo Nyombi, says broadcast media houses that will not air the president's census message risk having their licenses revoked.
