More action needed to save River Manafwa
The Ministry of Water and Environment together with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation have expressed complaints at the increasing costs of treating water for consumption in the Elgon region. They attribute the high cost to illegal human activities taking place along some of the Rivers Manafwa, Nabuyonga, and others, which are vital sources of water. Farmers here have cultivated gardens of matooke, maize, tomatoes, and cabbages along the river banks, cutting down trees and leading to degradation there.
