NRM, NUP trade accusations over violence in youth elections
The Electoral Commission’s 2025/2026 General Election closed the Special Interest Groups’ elections for youth committees in thousands of villages across the country amid tension this week. The official general results from the central region will pit the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, the overall winner, against the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), which maintains Kampala Central as its stronghold. However, NUP claims the village youth elections were marred by brutality allegedly perpetrated by some security personnel—a move they say dented their victory.
