Parliament summons Finance Minister over UGX 6.1trillion BOU loan
The Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises has summoned the finance minister to explain the government's reluctance to service a 6.1 trillion shilling loan from the Bank of Uganda. The MPs say the loan affects domestic borrowing from Ugandans, who are primarily involved in business and production. Bank of Uganda officials, led by the acting governor, appeared before the committee and warned Ugandans against using cryptocurrency, stating that they risk losing their money because it is not regulated under Ugandan laws.
