Parliament tasks govt to explain Bank of Uganda money loss
The state minister of finance in charge of general duties, Henry Musasizi, has confirmed the hacking of Bank of Uganda accounts, leading to the theft of billions of shillings. Explaining online reports on the matter, Musasizi described the amount of money reported to have been stolen as exaggerated but declined to give further details on what actually happened. This followed a question raised by the leader of the opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, seeking the government's explanation on the reported loss of over 60 billion shillings in a major heist on the central bank. In response, Parliament has directed the minister to provide a comprehensive statement within one month on the progress of investigations into the incident.
