SEVEN YEAR TENURE: Court quashed proposal but MPs resurrected it
In 2018, the Constitutional Court quashed an attempt by Parliament in 2017 to extend the term of all political leaders from 5 to 7 years. Three years later, the same Parliament, whose term is ending in three months, has re-introduced the seven year term in a new Constitutional Amendment Bill, eliciting public anger and condemnation. In this special report, Herbert Zziwa recounts the events of 2017 and whether they might have any implication on the new quest for a seven-year term.
