Shortage of fish leads to closure of about 8 factories
Andrew Alio, the assistant commissioner at the Ministry of Agriculture, animal industry, and fisheries, says Uganda’s fish consumption is still very low, averaging about 10 kilograms per person which is way below the world standards of consumption of 20 kilograms of fish per person per year. He says the industry faces challenges, including the closure of fish factories due to lack of fish, resulting in job and revenue loss.
