Tension at Uganda–South Sudan border triggers relocations
Security in Uganda has begun relocating people at the Uganda–South Sudan border as tensions escalate between South Sudan government forces and opposition groups. Among those relocated—either to refugee settlements or back to their countries of origin—are individuals without clear identification. According to Emmy Mitala, the Resident District Commissioner of Koboko District, there have been cases of Ugandans being abducted, robbed, and killed by armed individuals crossing from South Sudan into Uganda’s Kuluba Sub-county. So far, two Ugandans have been confirmed dead, and over 20 remain unaccounted for.
