Ugandan EALA representatives reject retaliatory measures against non-tariff barriers
Ugandan representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly have opposed calls for Uganda to adopt retaliatory policy measures in response to the non-tariff barriers imposed by other members of the East African Community bloc. Reports indicate that several non-tariff barriers are being enforced, some through lengthy bureaucratic procedures that hinder business operations yet leave no paper trail to offer clear evidence. Additionally, the economic partnership agreement Kenya negotiated independently with the European Union has been highlighted as a further complication, as it renders products from other East African states less competitive in the market.
