Uganda National Airlines has appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises (PAC-COSASE) to respond to issues raised in the Auditor General’s 2023/2024 financial year report.
The meeting, chaired by Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona, focused on the controversial procurement of four CRJ900 aircraft from a supplier that has since shut down — a situation now affecting the airline’s access to essential spare parts.
COSASE expressed disappointment after Uganda Airlines officials failed to attend a scheduled meeting the previous day, delaying the committee’s ongoing probe.
While appearing before the committee, Uganda Airlines CEO and Accounting Officer, Jenifer Bamuturaki, defended the airline’s operations. She stated that production of the necessary spare parts is still ongoing and that the airline continues to register significant revenue growth.
“It is unfortunate that social media portrays the airline in a bad light, yet we have complied with all international aviation standards,” Bamuturaki told the committee.
However, Members of Parliament challenged her remarks, insisting that production of the CRJ900 parts had indeed ceased.
