NUP mobiliser arrested in Mbarara, police fire teargas to disperse crowd

A mobiliser of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has been arrested in Mbarara City.

The unidentified man, known to many in the city for preaching NUP ideology on the streets, resisted arrest. A scuffle ensued, drawing the attention of several onlookers. In an attempt to disperse the growing crowd that followed the police vehicle transporting him, officers fired teargas.

Shortly after the arrest, NUP party members in Mbarara flocked Mbarara Central Police Station in an effort to secure his release.

Police have declined to comment on the incident.
