Survey reveals challenges in Uganda’s SME investment deals

A new survey on Uganda’s private capital ecosystem has revealed that closing investment deals for SMEs remains difficult due to several hurdles. Investors are constrained by partner mandates, equity deals are slowed by disputes over sweat equity, and poor financial reporting. Pension and insurance funds continue to prefer government securities over private capital. Brenda Amony, Portfolio Relationship Manager at the Deal Flow Facility, an initiative of Financial Sector Deepening Uganda, says unlocking investment will require stronger alignment between investors and businesses.
