The Central Government has begun construction of Uganda’s first-ever Prosecutors’ Academy in Nakasongola, aimed at equipping prosecutors with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle increasingly complex crimes such as cybercrime and human trafficking.
While presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo, emphasised the urgent need for a specialised training centre, noting that prosecution is not formally taught anywhere and is often learned on the job.
She described the academy as a long-held dream — a dedicated space where prosecutors can receive hands-on training, conduct research on emerging crimes, and engage in ethical reflection.
The facility will also serve other government agencies by offering refresher courses, ultimately strengthening the justice system through the development of a more unified and skilled prosecutorial force.
