In Bundibugyo District, a quiet revolution is unfolding. Former street food vendors are becoming restaurant owners, savings groups are turning into thriving businesses, and government seed capital is multiplying into millions of shillings in community wealth. The Emyooga programme, launched in 2019 as a presidential initiative, has become a lifeline for entrepreneurs in one of Uganda’s most remote districts. The savings group that started with Shs30 million as seed capital has grown into a 264-member SACCO that has disbursed Shs238 million in loans.
