Election spending sparks debt concerns

As the country enters the election season, citizens worry that money could be diverted from social services to fund campaigns. Adding to their concerns are civil society organizations, which have cautioned against wasteful spending—especially given that the country is already carrying a debt burden of up to Shs116.2 trillion, with debt servicing taking a large share of the budget.
