The ruling NRM has several ministers who are, however, staunch members of Opposition political parties. One of them is the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi, who is a member of the Opposition Uganda People’s Congress. She is also the wife of UPC president Jimmy Akena, the son of Milton Obote, the founding president of the party. Amongi is contesting against Health Minister Ruth Aceng for the Lira City Member of Parliament.
