The Court sitting at Kampala City Hall has granted bail to ASP Clive Nsiima, the police officer captured in a viral video slapping a fuel station attendant after being asked to pay Shs30,000 for items he had taken.
Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu set Nsiima’s bail at Shs1 million, while his three sureties were each bonded at Shs5 million to ensure his return for trial.
The court noted that Nsiima still enjoys the presumption of innocence, has no record of skipping bail or pending cases, and presented substantial sureties, despite the viral nature of the incident.
Nsiima was charged on Monday with assault and causing actual bodily harm to a supermarket attendant in Kyanja and had been remanded to Luzira Prison. The bail now allows him temporary freedom as he awaits trial.
According to the prosecution, Nsiima — attached to the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, Oil and Gas Department — unlawfully assaulted Pellan Atumuhuriize on October 7, 2025, and damaged her mobile phone.
He has denied the charges, but State Prosecutor Yamangusho opposed the bail application, arguing that Nsiima’s conduct disgraced the police uniform and violated his duty to protect citizens.
