The East African Legislative Assembly has taken a significant step toward establishing a common currency in the region by passing a key bill for the implementation of the Monetary Union for the second time. The East African Statistics Bill, 2018, was approved despite concerns over delays and insufficient coordination among the Council of Ministers, which had kept the bill on hold for seven years since its initial approval. This report comes from Jackson Onyango in Arusha, Tanzania, where the EALA is currently holding sessions.
