On July 31st, Betty Cheptoyek Kaali was declared the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer for the Woman Member of Parliament seat for Kapchorwa District. Her declaration followed a re-run of the party primaries after the initial results were nullified due to electoral irregularities. Cheptoyek, who has been serving as the District Female Councilor representing persons with disabilities (PWDs), had a challenging childhood, but this did not deter her dreams. Benjamin Jumbe caught up with her for a chat about her childhood and political journey, which has seen her transition from representing special interest groups to mainstream politics.
