Local leaders in Kiryandongo are calling on stakeholders to find alternative sources of income for skilled refugees in the camp to ensure their survival.
According to these leaders, many refugees are educated and possess skills in various job sectors, such as welding and entrepreneurship. However, they lack access to the market.
The refugees expressed the need for greater access to opportunities, particularly within government procurement systems.
This plea was made during the “Brighter Monday” event, which highlighted the urgent need for dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for both displaced youth and those in the host community in Kiryandongo, Uganda. Over 700 refugees participated in the event, which was organized by Brighter Monday in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation.
