Minister Mutuuzo calls for action as female illiteracy tops 7 million

The State Minister for Gender and Culture, Peace Mutuuzo, has called for targeted interventions in adult learning and community education to address the current glaring literacy gaps. Peace Mutuuzo says that more than seven million women in Uganda are considered illiterate—a number that almost doubles the number of illiterate men in the country, which currently stands at 3.9 million. The Gender Minister adds that most of the illiterate women in this bracket are elderly.
