Investment Minister Evelyn Anite has sparked debate over rising campaign expenditure, revealing that some candidates are spending as much as Shs 500 million on polling day alone.

According to the Alliance for Campaign Finance Monitoring (ACFIM), approximately Shs 3.983 trillion was spent during the 2021 Ugandan general elections, with the majority of funds used to woo voters.

Current trends suggest that spending in the upcoming election cycle could double, raising concerns about the sustainability and fairness of electoral competition.
