Over 450 road maintenance contractors have not been paid for three years, leaving most road works projects stalled. Works Ministry officials have attributed the delayed payments to budget cuts. Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa says the roads in a dire state are Mityana-Mubende and Mubende-Kyegegwa.
The Works Ministry has meanwhile assured Ugandans that this will not affect the quality of work offered by these contractors and that the payments will be cleared by the end of this month.
