TAKENOTE: Concerns over the deteriorating state of Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria is facing serious pollution and toxin threats, including cyanobacteria blooms (HABs) releasing harmful toxins, nutrient runoff from agriculture and urban areas, and industrial and sewage waste discharge. These issues are endangering aquatic life and human health, and the situation has recently escalated, raising alarm. We speak to Mercy Stephen Sebuliba, Programs Officer at Lake Victoria Region Local Authorities Cooperation, about how it got to this point and what can be done to reverse the damage and improve the condition of the lake.
