MPs call for arrest of Isimba dam contractor
The Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources has directed the arrest and recording of statements of four Chinese and Pakistani nationals for their involvement in the doing of shoddy works in the construction of the Isimba Hydro Power plant in Kayunga.
The dam which was commissioned in 2019 has since developed cracks at the spillway which is causing threats to the neighboring community and a loss of over 500 million US dollars that was invested. The Chinese are representatives of China International Water and Electric Corporation contractors who are being accused of doing work with defects. These appeared before the committee which recently visited the Isimba Hydropower Station.
