Doctor fined Shs 4M for forging medical bail document
Hassan Segujja, an orthopedic doctor formerly attached to Mulago National Referral Hospital, has been sentenced to a Shs 4 million fine for forging medical prescription forms to enable Kampala District Land Board chairperson, David Balondemu, to apply for bail. Segujja waived his right to go through a full trial, where he could have faced a jail term of more than three years. Instead, he entered a plea bargain agreement with the prosecution, accepting the forgery charges in exchange for a lighter punishment. Segujja testified on 18th November 2023 that he was called by Balondemu, who had been detained at Wandegeya Police Station, and was asked to author a medical document indicating that he was very sick and had a scheduled operation, intended to help secure bail before the Buganda Road Court.
