Isingiro teachers tipped on how to end violence in school
The Ministry of Education, through the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project, is intensifying training on non-violent methods of disciplining students by instructing more teachers in secondary schools across Uganda. The latest training session, held in Isingiro District, comes in response to a growing number of videos circulating on social media showing teachers in western Uganda violently beating learners. Although corporal punishment was outlawed by the central government 28 years ago, the Ministry of Education says it remains committed to eradicating the practice to keep learners in school.
