New drought-resistant groundnuts launched to fight food insecurity
Three new varieties of drought-resistant groundnuts have been unveiled at the 44th World Food Day anniversary held in Serere District, Teso Sub-region. Researchers at the National Agriculture and Research Organisation developed the varieties, which are said to be quick-maturing and rich in nutrients. The Vice President, Jessica Alupo, hailed the researchers, saying they are ensuring the availability of food given recent figures from the Food and Agriculture Organisation that 1.7 million Ugandans are food insecure.
