Parliament bans wearing of battle fatigues in house
The new Rules of Procedure of Parliament have banned representatives of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) from wearing combat uniforms while in Parliament, allowing only official ceremonial uniforms of the UPDF. In addition, the House has also banned all non-formal attire, except for the gomesi and kanzu, as well as the hijab for Muslims. This has left some MPs wondering how they will preserve their African heritage. As a result, a minority report on the Rules of Procedure has suggested that even army representatives in Parliament should switch to civilian suits and other forms of decent wear.
