Rukungiri Coop drives piggery success
From a small farmers' group in Nyakajeme Sub-County, the Rukungiri Producer Cooperative Union has grown into a powerful enterprise, earning over 100 million shillings every four months. Specializing in piggery farming since 2016 and with critical support from the Microfinance Support Center in 2020, the Union now boasts over 200,000 members across five districts. With a demonstration center housing over 5,000 pigs, the union distributes piglets to members, while selling surplus and mature pigs. Its success has transformed livelihoods, making it a beacon of wealth creation in the region. We have more in this report.
