Uganda’s micro-insurance premiums more than double, driven by strategic partnerships
Uganda’s micro-insurance premiums have more than doubled, rising from Shs 700 million in 2023 to nearly Shs 1.7 billion in 2024, driven by a wave of strategic collaborations between insurers and mass-market platforms such as banks and telecoms.
One notable partnership is the new offering between Opportunity Bank and micro-insurer Turaco, which bundles affordable hospital cash and funeral cover for underserved communities. The initiative aims to reach millions of customers annually, according to a report by Ronah Nahabwe.
