Uganda's public participation in budgeting process drops
While the recent Open Budget Survey report scored Uganda’s budget transparency at 59%, it gave the country only 15% for public participation—a decline from the 19% scored in 2021. This suggests that Ugandans remain largely uninvolved in budget processes. As the government prepares to begin FY 2025/26 budget talks in May, which will be read in June, civil society organizations (CSOs) have called for a more inclusive process. They urge that budget submissions be open to all and not restricted to certain groups.
