A study by the National Curriculum Development Centre has found that language transition difficulties in Primary Four and Five are contributing to high school dropout rates among learners in rural areas. The study noted that some learners struggle with the medium of instruction and recommended extending the transition from local languages to English from the currently recommended Primary Four to at least Primary Six, to give learners greater comfort while studying.
