The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition, a political party led by Riek Machar, has warned that the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity of South Sudan has collapsed and its legitimacy has ended. This after the South Sudanese government charged Machar with treason, murder and crimes against humanity. President Salva Kiir also suspended Riek Machar from his position as the first Vice President. The fresh developments threaten the country’s 2018 peace deal that could arguably collapse if the status quo remains.
