Bamboo made wheelchairs give hope to children with disabilities

According to the 2024 National Population and Housing Census, 460,805 children aged 2 to 17 years are living with a disability. For many, the lack of a wheelchair means a life spent on the floor, unable to attend school, access care, or move beyond the home. In Kyaninga Village, Kabarole District, an initiative is tackling this gap with a unique solution: wheelchairs made from bamboo. These wheelchairs are designed for rural terrain and built by locals, offering mobility and a model for inclusive support .
