Besigye’s lead lawyer defending against all odds

One year since opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused Hajji Obeid Lutale were arrested and charged with treason, their legal team says the case has been characterised by illegality, delays, and systematic violations of due process. Kenyan senior counsel Martha Karua, the lead lawyer representing the pair, has described the entire prosecution as “an abduction turned into a political process.”
