Recounting Besigye’s one-year incarceration

4-time presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale have been in prison for more than one year. They are facing charges related to security, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, treachery, and misprision of treason. The duo first appeared before the General Court Martial in Makindye in the capital Kampala between 20th November 2024 and 14th February 2025, before their case was later transferred to ca ivilian court. In the following report, DANIEL KIBET revisits the key events that happened in the court martial and how the lawyers of Besigye and Lutale gave the state a very difficult time throughout the proceedings.
