Uganda’s cross-border trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo has hit an unprecedented one billion dollars, but traders are paying a heavy price. Our cameras captured two-kilometer queues of cargo trucks at border posts, while Ugandan businesspeople report systematic mistreatment and diplomatic neglect from their DRC counterparts. Trade Minister Wilson Mbasu Mbadi has now committed to urgent talks with his DRC counterpart to address what he calls mounting barriers threatening this billion-dollar trade lifeline.
