Dozens of people in Bumataya Village, Bulambuli District, have been displaced after their houses were damaged by runoff water from the slopes of Mt. Elgon.
The situation is being blamed on cement companies mining pozzolana stones—a natural siliceous-aluminous material used in cement production.
In addition to homes, the runoff has also destroyed several farmlands, leaving residents in distress.
