The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), in partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC), has introduced African grey parrots to Ngamba Island as part of efforts to boost tourism and promote wildlife conservation.

The parrots are part of a group of 119 birds rescued from a trafficker at the Bunagana border with the Democratic Republic of Congo in April 2022.

According to UWA, Ngamba Island was chosen for the initiative because of its sustainable environment, which is ideal for bird conservation.
