The Insurance Appeals Tribunal has raised red flags over persistent weaknesses in Uganda’s insurance sector—citing vague policy wordings, unclear claims processes, poor customer service, inadequate investigations, and the mis-selling of policies by intermediaries.

According to the tribunal, many disputes stem from contradictory clauses in policy documents, a lack of guidance during claims processes, and significant gaps in customer support.

Meanwhile, the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) has also issued a stern warning, stating that mis-selling will be treated as the direct responsibility of insurance companies, since brokers and agents act on their behalf. This is according to the IRA Chief Executive Officer, Alhajj Ibrahim Kaddunabi.
