Located in present-day Albert Nile in Pakwach District, West Nile region, the Emin Pasha Fort is famous for its role in the fight against the slave trade in Africa in the late 1880s. Emin Pasha, a German-born Ottoman governor of the Equatorial Province of Egyptian Sudan, set his base here. It became both the center of his administration and a hub for his scientific studies. He attempted to ban slavery within African local administrations. On October 23, 1892, he was killed by Arab slave traders at Kinena Station near Nyangwe in the Congo Free State, which is present-day Democratic Republic of Congo.
