A study to examine how contract farming can be regulated to help farmers avoid being cheated by buyers of various products has been launched.
It was commissioned to advance the Contract Farming Bill 2023, which is intended to formalize agricultural markets and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
The Private Sector Foundation Uganda, in partnership with AGRA, has funded the study.
Findings show that smallholder farmers can benefit from contract farming if they engage buyers in larger groups, such as cooperatives, rather than as individual farmers.
