A long list of demands awaits the various presidential candidates as they set foot in the war-torn Acholi sub-region. The region, endowed with vast fertile land, continues to grapple with social and economic challenges resulting from more than two decades of armed insurgencies. Cattle rustling, teenage pregnancies, health challenges, land conflicts, poor education, and human-wildlife conflicts are among the issues troubling the people in the region. With a total population of over 2 million across nine administrative units, according to the 2024 UBOS report, the Acholi sub-region still faces a 63.6% poverty rate—significantly higher than the national average of 16.1%.
